Arthritis is an ailment most common to the elderly. This is caused by the inflammation of the joints that causes mild to extreme pain the elderly. There are also cases in which people in their youth or prime have arthritis. This means that this bothersome ailment is not necessarily restricted to those who have come to retirement age but may also affect the younger generation. So what are the main causes of Arthritis?
One factor that can be attributed to the development of Arthritis is genetics. Though the real scale of this factor cannot be determined fully, many families who have a long line of Arthritis conditions are more likely to have more cases for their younger generations.
Age is perhaps the biggest factor that contributes to Arthritis. As the human body grows older, bone composition becomes stronger until it reaches its prime. Beyond the prime age, this process is reversed and slowly, the bones, including the tendons and cartilages in muscles and joints, become brittle, thus resulting in a high risk of Arthritis.
Another leading factor that causes Arthritis is weight. There are many cases in which people who are obese have Arthritis problems as well. This is due to the excess weight in which their joints and bones are subjected to, resulting in a faster deterioration of the joint cartilage. The most common cases of Arthritis in obese people are hip and knee arthritis.
Daily activities can also be a factor of Arthritis. People who are constantly exposed to heavy work like construction and assembly line works have a higher risk of developing Arthritis. Also work outs like weight lifting can also cause Arthritis. Though the beneficial attributes of these activities far outmatched the risks it gives.
Illness, infection, and previous joint injuries are also known to cause Arthritis. Joint injuries may worn out the smooth cartilages on the joints are damaged and needed substantial time to recover. If the joint is infected, it is likely to develop arthritis as well due to the damage on the smooth cartilage caused by infection.
These are a few causes of Arthritis. People tend to get themselves involved in many cases that cause arthritis and only by taking things in moderation and keeping a healthy lifestyle can this bothersome illness be prevented.
